BlueOnyx

BlueOnyx is a Linux distribution and web hosting control panel that aims to provide a user-friendly interface for managing web servers. It was developed as a successor to the original BlueQuartz control panel, which was initially released in 2002. Here is a brief history of BlueOnyx:

  1. BlueQuartz: BlueQuartz was created by Solarspeed.net and was based on the open-source Cobalt Control Panel (CCP), which was originally developed by Cobalt Networks. Cobalt Networks was acquired by Sun Microsystems in 2000, and the CCP was later open-sourced. Solarspeed.net took the CCP code, modified and enhanced it, and released it as BlueQuartz in 2002. BlueQuartz provided a graphical interface for managing web hosting features, email services, DNS, and other server-related tasks.
  2. BlueOnyx: In 2004, the BlueQuartz project was renamed to BlueOnyx. The development and maintenance of BlueOnyx were taken over by the BlueOnyx Group, an independent community-driven effort. BlueOnyx aimed to continue the development of the control panel while addressing security and stability concerns. It provided a user-friendly interface based on the original BlueQuartz design and offered features like domain management, file management, email configuration, and more.
  3. BlueOnyx 5209R: BlueOnyx 5209R, released in 2012, marked a significant milestone for the project. It introduced major updates and improvements, including a revamped user interface, updated software packages, enhanced security features, and better compatibility with modern Linux distributions.
  4. BlueOnyx 5209R SP2 and Beyond: BlueOnyx 5209R SP2, released in 2015, introduced further enhancements, bug fixes, and security updates. The BlueOnyx project continues to release updates and improvements to ensure the stability and functionality of the control panel.

BlueOnyx aims to provide a robust and user-friendly control panel for web hosting, making it easier for administrators and users to manage web servers and hosting environments. It is built on a Linux distribution, typically CentOS, and combines various open-source software components to create a comprehensive hosting solution.
